The Bakersfield Christmas Parade

This is the Bakersfield Christmas Parade.  In 2014, I was given the opportunity to executive produce the first broadcast that was not televised on TV.  In 2015 the Bakersfield Californian was given the opportunity to broadcast the parade again.  2015’s broadcast was also a dual stream simulcast with Spanish-speaking hosts.

For 2015, I had two camera operators, and a person who advanced the graphics for the identifying lower thirds.  Since our budget was so low, help was also extremely limited.  To fill this shortage, I took on a bulk of the workload for the broadcast. Producing all of the graphics (115 plus parade floats) and show intro, as well as calling camera shots and graphics, prompting the on-air talent, and switching the cameras myself.   Also due to payroll constraints, I ended up having to set up and wire all of the cameras, the on-set monitor, the mics, multiple computers in an empty van (as well as create a LAN inside the van).  In the end, the broadcast came off mostly without a hitch (we did lose power at one point, but I was able to rewire a few things to get our stream back up in about 4 minutes or so).

This is the 2015 broadcast. It was such a fun evening to be a part of!

Bakersfield College Football - Home Games

A clip from the Ventura College at Bakersfield College broadcast from November 5, 2016 (one of the announcers said “pisses me off” during this clip).

For the Bakersfield College home games of the 2015 and 2016 seasons, I served as producer (timing of broadcast), call director (calling camera shots, instant replay, commercial breaks, on-air talent cues), technical director (switching of video sources), also doing the physical transport and setup of all equipment [along with one other person].  For these broadcasts I produced all of the lower thirds, full-screen graphics, and scoreboards (and in this particular clip the full-screen graphic of the first commercial in the break).

A clip from the Cerritos College at Bakersfield College broadcast on October 22, 2016.

BVarsity Live Preview Show

This is an edited clip that showcases Kern County football coaches thanking the “BVarsity” co-hosts for their dedication to the students involved in Kern County prep sports.

Outside of the sporting events, all clips in this piece were produced either live or before the broadcasts by myself.  In 2015 I completely redesigned the look of the show with an updated logo and new lower thirds and show open/close built in After Effects.

This clip is a collection of the coaches from the beginning of the 2016 season, and contains clips from 2014 and 2015 seasons of athletics.

Here is a clip from the “BVarsity Live Preview Show” when the Vice President of Content of the Bakersfield Californian (a former track and field athlete), decided to join in the conversation about the state of tracks in Kern County.

I served as producer and director of this show-based for 2 full seasons of athletics. Also updating the graphic and motion graphic elements for the BVarsity Brand (the signs on the walls were left over, and there was no budget to get them replaced).

The cameras were in fixed positions on tripods and in this clip, VP Louis Amestoy walked on the set to join the conversation.

From the “BVarsity Live Preview Show.”  During a total of 6 hours of shows from two days of broadcasts, a few of the coaches couldn’t make it into the studio, so I created “On The Phone” graphics and routed their phone calls into the broadcast. This clip also shows the split screen shot of the two co-hosts (around 3:00 into the clip) that we used nearly weekly for rapid back and forth discussions.

Off The Press

During the 2016 Election season, government and politics writer for the Bakersfield Californian James Burger, conceived a show to give a platform for all of the candidates who would be on Kern County ballots.  Over the course of 20 shows in 10 weeks, nearly all of the candidates appeared on this discussion show.

To make his show a reality I developed the show open (shown at the end of this clip), the bumpers, and the graphics, as well as serving as producer and technical director of all the shows. This segment was probably the most difficult content as the judge who was running for re-election was found to have perjured himself in an investigation.

The Beautiful Bakersfield Awards Show

Known as the “Oscars of Bakersfield,” this annual gala put on by the Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce, recognizes the efforts made by individuals, businesses and organizations each year to improve the quality of life in Bakersfield.

For three years, I live-produced the multi-cam webcast of the evening, moving the production from broadcast television to the Bakersfield Californian website. In 2016 I also built all of the graphics for the evenings events (this years show was over 300 slides).

Condors Unleashed

This is the “Condors Unleashed” show.  When the Bakersfield Condors team was taken over by the American Hockey League to serve as a feeder team to the Edmonton Oilers (NHL), the Condors needed to add their weekly show to a Televised broadcast.  I served as producer/director to the series during the 2015/16 season and the beginning of the 2016/17 season to migrate the show to a TV broadcast.  This is the first segment of the 2016/17 season show.
